Pet Euthanasia

We understand that saying goodbye to a much-loved family pet is extremely difficult, even when you know it is the kindest thing to do.

Our home visit vet can provide dog and cat euthanasia in your home.

We find that for many people, being at home with your pet in familiar and comfortable surroundings makes the situation less stressful… and eases the process a little.

Support in your own home

VETaround mobile vet services support you and your pet in your own home. We take care of everything so you can concentrate on just being with your pet at this difficult time. Our aim is to make the process as loving, peaceful and dignified as possible. This page explains what to expect.

Your pet can sit or lie wherever they feel most comfortable – perhaps on a favourite cushion or on your lap.

Our vet will give your pet a tiny injection of sedation, and we use the finest possible needle for this.

Most pets don’t even feel it. This sedation relaxes your pet, and it takes between five and 15 minutes to work. You can sit with your pet and stroke them while the sedation works.

Once the sedation takes effect, you will find your pet wants to lie down comfortably. Once your pet is fully relaxed, our vet will shave a tiny patch of fur from a vein on the front or back leg. We will then place a small plastic cannula in the vein and attach a plastic tube to the cannula.

When you are ready, we give an overdose of anaesthetic into the plastic tube. Your pet will not feel this injection and you can cuddle them throughout. Sometimes your pet will take a couple of very big ‘breaths’ or make a ‘noise’. This is not a real breath or noise but a reflex, and your pet is unaware it is happening. As everything relaxes, your pet might pass urine (wee).

Afterwards, we give you as much time and space as you need with your pet.

Comprehensive care

After your pet is at peace, we look after all arrangements. We can take your pet with us and arrange for a dignified pet cremation. If you choose a private cremation, your pets ashes will be returned to you within a few days. You can also bury your pet at home if you choose, and we can offer advice on this.

If you would like help deciding if the time is right or would like to talk to us about any aspect of pet euthanasia, please contact us.

A Pet’s Prayer

If it should be that I grow frail and weak

And pain should keep me from my sleep

Then you must do what must be done

For this the last battle can’t be won

You will be sad… I understand

Don’t let your grief then, sad your hand

For this day more than the rest

Your love and friendship stand the test

We’ve had so many happy years

What is to come can hold no fears

You’d not want me to suffer so

When the time comes, please let me go

Take me where my need, they’ll tend

Only stay with me… to the end

And hold me firm and speak to me

Until my eyes no longer see

I know in time you will see

It is a kindness you do to me

Although my tail, it’s last waved

From pain and suffering, I’ve been saved

Don’t grieve, it should be you

Who decided this thing to do

We’ve been so close, we two, these years

Don’t let your heart hold any tears

Smile for me, walk together, for a little while.

The Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge

There is a bridge connecting heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colours. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, they go to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those that are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth.

So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

TESTIMONIALS

Highly recommend Ari , he has been looking after my 2 kitties for over 5 years . The ease and care of his home vet service can be highly commended!

I went with VETaround because they were one of the highest rated on Google and I wanted the best for my ginger fur baby. I was not disappointed. Swift, attentive and very friendly service.

Ari was awesome. He created a calm, relaxing environment and adapted to the needs of my very skittish cat (e.g. not ringing the doorbell, examining her in an area she felt safe etc.). Thank you! I’d happily recommend VETaround as a great alternative to the dreaded trip to the vet.

Chester and Freya are very nervous cats and the thought of having to catch them. Ari is great, he has even dived under our bed in hot pursuit of Freya and consultations are usually held in the bathroom!

Ari is incredible! He is caring and attentive to our dogs needs and he is a spectacular vet.

Ari is a caring and compassionate vet who has looked after the health of our cats for years. He goes above and beyond in his treatment of our boys. We also appreciate Jen's fabulous support!
